How To Use
Step 1
Make sure you have a ventilated area and that you have open windows in the space that you will be smudging. Begin by lighting the sticks at the very tips with either a match stick or a lighter. Hold the sage at a 45 degree angle, angled downward and let it burn for 30-60 seconds (or long enough to see that the stick has engaged with the flame well). Then, gently blow the flame to allow the smoke to start drifting in the space (very similar to how you would burn and smoke incense).
Step 2
Let the sage burn anywhere from 2-5 minutes throughout the space that you are wishing to cleanse (depending on how big or small the room is will determine how long you want to burn), making sure that there is ventilation throughout (open the windows and doors of your house or office to allow good flow of the smoke). Please burn away from curtains, lampshades, or any objects that could catch on fire easily.
Step 3
In order to extinguish the sage, press the tip of the stick into a bowl of sand, a ceramic bowl, or simply get a damp napkin and hold firm until the smoke stops. Do not use water directly on the stick. Remember to keep a burning stick away from children and pets.
